Ayurvedic medicine used celery seed to treat colds, flu, water retention, poor digestion, various types of arthritis, and certain diseases of the liver and spleen. Celery seeds where tested on animals and it was found that celery could reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as protecting the liver from damage, but researchers don't know weather this would be true in people.


In humans researchers have found that a diet rich in lutein, which is found in celery where less likely to develop colorectol cancer. Celery seed is available online, at Holland and Barrett, and other good health food shops.
